Perfection

I think I have just made the perfect Sunday-morning cup of coffee.
  1. Start with good Italian fine-ground espresso roast coffee
  2. Make espresso in Moka coffeemaker (gift from incredibly thoughtful girlfriend)
  3. Heat 1 cup milk plus generous splash Bavarian sweetened whipping cream
  4. Pour together in large coffeecup
  5. Stop in your tracks when you take a sip

Yup. It's pretty good.

This morning I'm pretending that we live in a charming old brownstone in Brooklyn, listening to opera on the radio (which we are actually doing), drinking Italian coffee (also doing) and preparing for a leisurely Sunday of strolling the city blocks and stopping in at antique shops. Doesn't that sound like fun? That's what I'm pretending.

Maybe that's what this apartment should be. A cozy little city apartment, crammed full of love and wonderful things. Instead of wishing and trying to force it into being a house (which I haven't had time to do yet, but it's on my mind), it should be what it is, and we should love it as such. Until we either move to a *real* charming city apartment in San Francisco, or find a real house somewhere else. Right now it's still full of blank walls and a few half-way unpacked boxes. So it's a blank canvas. Or one with a faint sketch of what's to come, still able to be modified.

On the agenda for today:

  • Find a home phone plus answering machine
  • Walk in the park
  • Bead
  • Paint?
  • Watch movie and cuddle
  • Soup for dinner?

It's so chilly and overcast here in the mornings. I rather like it, but it does make me think of autumn soups instead of late-summer salads.

Well, we're off to take a copy of the Times to the park and watch the little old ladies walk their dogs, before looking for the perfect antique mirror for the foyer. You?
