What Is This Blog For?

Eva mentions a good question today: What Is Your Blog For?

Mine started out as just a journal. A place to write down random stuff, just for fun. And it still is that. Hence the occasional totally random post. Well, more than occasional random posts (let's be honest). And as a substitute for letters to friends and family, "what's going on in our life here in California". That sort of thing.

But now it's almost a book blog. Well, it's a book-blog-plus. I really, really enjoy book blogging. I wish I could read even MORE so I could blog about books MORE. I love, love, LOVE talking (and reading) about books. This makes me very happy.

So it's definitely for book-talk.

And it's for self-expression. I am, traditionally, rather private. I tend to be the still-waters-run-deep-type. With occasional torrents of rapids crashing all over and making a huge mess. But anyway. Generally, not the type to put it all out there to just anyone. But I do enjoy writing, and I think it's good for me to write about myself as I tend to undershare elsewhere. I am a strong INFJ which means I tend to communicate best either one-on-one or in writing. I like to communicate, but I am shy. My beloved late therapist used to urge me to work on 'making the tapestry match on both sides' -- meaning, making the outside match the inside. It's difficult for me, but ultimately blogging about myself helps me to be more open in real life. So, there's that.

It's also about sharing my cooking adventures and my sporadic artsy streaks. I hope to have more artsy streaks this year (that is NOT a resolution, mind you!). With pictures.

So. Books, Self, Cooking, Art.

Which kind of sums up my internal (and external) life.

And connection. I sure do love this small growing community of mostly bookish bloggers that I've happily fallen into. It means a lot to me and I do want to participate more. And of course I love it when friends and family read my blog. It means a lot for me to stay in touch with people.

So that's what my blog is about. Stuff. And books.

I love the mix too! And I suffer with the liking to communicate but being shy dilemma too.

Thanks, Eva. I love that you read it. The mix works for me!

Nymeth: it's a dilemma, isn't it? I love to share, but I rarely share in person. I love to connect, but have a hard time in real life. Love the blog world! I'm so glad you check in.

An INTJ here. I totally know what your saying. I love our blog, book chat with benefits :) And as someone who doesn't cook i love your cooking posts. They are sometimes so elaborate I am amazed and astounded. I hope 2009 is filled with lots of great things!
