The Joy of Thrifting

So it wasn't exactly thrifting (nor garage-sale-ing)... it was a gigantic White Elephant Sale, put on by the Oakland Library something-or-other to raise money. This is an EVENT. A gigantic warehouse full of everything imaginable. I LOVE this event. I've gone twice so far this year (the preview sale lasts for about a month and then it's open to the public, and I was lucky enough to get a preview tag), and by my calculations, I've spent approximately $20. Here's what I got:
  • 13 x 9 Pryex baking dish (I've been needing one of these for, oh, eight years)
  • 8 x 8 Pyrex baking dish (I have one already, but it's always good to have two of these)
  • 9 x 9 oval Pyrex baking dish (a little chipped, but still perfectly fine for cobblers)
  • 2 sets of silverware for my personal use at the office
  • 3 beautiful heavy stoneware wide-mouth soup mugs (1 for work, 2 for home)
  • 1 small rubber spatula (.10!!)
  • 1 large serving spoon
  • a few other random small items

I've had the Pyrex dishes and serving spoon on my list for quite awhile and was going to go get them at Target. But then I thought, Hmm. The big one alone is going to be at least $10. I bet I can find it at a thrift store (or white elephant sale). I got it for $3. I'm feeling pretty good about my purchases.

I looked at jewelry and wanted to try on some faux pearls, but decided I didn't need them. I'd like to do some serious investigating in the vintage clothing section and the bedding section, and I'm actually very afraid of the damage I might do if I allowed myself to thoroughly browse the book section. So I might go once more. But even if I don't, my thrifty soul is happy.

I don't go thrifting much anymore; I'm trying to cut down on the number of items in our house, but I am reminded that it's awfully fun to go look, and get cheap books and junk jewelry and such. I might have to work that into my regular weekend activities again.
