that kind of a (week?)

If you are a Neil Gaiman fan, then perhaps you read his journal or follow him on Twitter. And if you do, then you know that he has a very very sweet blind kitty. Who is now very very sick. I read about this last night and it has been breaking my heart ever since. I know that kitties get sick all the time (and it's awful every single time) but this little one reminds me of my Little and when kitties have that certain sweet look, I tear up and am full of misery and loss all over again.

However, a very sweet story about Gaiman's little girl here, and a picture of the darling, here. Send some good thoughts to little Zoe if you can. (stopping now, before I start crying again)

Some bad/good things:

Thankfully my leg (she of the recent staph infection) is healing, but this morning I woke up with my eyes completely puffed over. Apparently I am allergic to my new eyeshadow. Three hours of tea bags and one Claritin later, I could see well enough to drive to work. Benadryl for me tonight!

The house has been at around 50 degrees all week (inside the house), which is insane; however, we made the thrilling discovery last night that the bedroom can handle a higher-powered space heater without shorting out the entire house (which usually happens in other rooms, which is one reason why the house is 50 degrees). So tonight we will be going to Sears to purchase the best goddamned space heater they have. And maybe a programmable oil radiator for the rest of the house, to take the chill off. If it won't burst all the fuses. Or burst into flames. Either of those options are not good.

Other assorted goodness/badness:
Terri's car won't start.
I'm loving The Bourne Identity (book). Mindless fun.
Terri has discovered she makes a mean split pea soup in the slow cooker.
Terri found a good GI doc.
I'm going to a first-time homebuyers seminar tomorrow. W00t!
Apparently I am in full-on PMS mode.
It's been raining buckets, which is lovely, but makes our house even colder.

Yippee! Come on over to our house this weekend. Hopefully we'll have some heat, and I'll make popcorn and we can forget about the world.

All the Zoe posts made me tear up :( And I thought of you and Tiger Lilly right away *hugs*

LOL, I was going to say "Well, at least it's not raining!" but I see that it is.

Tim tried reading the Bourne Identity and didn't care for it... now I wonder if I would like it or not.

Maybe we need to bring the baby over...it was toasty when we were there!

So glad to hear Terri found a good doc. Now, let's just hope this one stays...oh, I won't even say it!

Hugs to you two!

Ana: thanks. so sad!!! poor kitty and she looks so sweet.

Barefoot: the Bourne Identity is what I would categorize as man-fluff. The man version of chick-lit. But it's certainly fun and I'm liking it.

Nick: ooh, we got a new space heater tonight and the kitchen is no longer 50 degrees! Yippee!! yes, and don't even say it about the doctor....

gaimans cat is adorable. i love that fat kitty face. soooo cute.

ive had one of those weeks too. nothing terribly horribly bad has happened, but it just seems to be one thing after another and i dont want to deal with any of it. i want to climb back into bed and i dont want to talk to anyone.

maybe general suckiness is everywhere right now! I can only get on to blog bi-weekly these days! I'm sorry to hear you had a staph infection, that's serious, glad you are recovering from it. Even better is that Terri has a GI doctor. Since my kitty is sick (she has cancer), I'm not sure I can handle seeing another sick kitty right now.....

hope you warm your house up without it bursting into flame. I remember how damp England was, and the gas heater that made the house toasty and warm. Here's hoping your space heater works wonders for you!

get well, Daphne!

Tammie: yes, absolutely. I will ask my brother, who would know the 'bad' neighborhoods. Honestly, after living in Oakland, I kind of laugh at the idea of Portland having a "bad" neighborhood but I'm sure there are better and worse parts. :) I don't particularly feel like being too social either...

Susan: yeah, what's going on with all of us? I'm sending good thoughts to you and your sweet kitty!

My eyes are slowly going back down to normal (although now they are itching like crazy) and the new heater is making the kitchen nice and warm... life is better. Also, testing out my new ice cream maker and making a batch of Coffee Heath Bar Crunch. Never a bad thing.

Can I take a raincheck on the invitation to drop by?! I just got here, and now I'm late!

p.s. Absolutely LOVE Neil Gaiman.

thanks again for the info about the neighborhoods.

and i like what you said about laughing at the idea of there being any bad neighborhoods in portland. i do expect to have to deal with some crime, probably more than im used to, but i think thats kind of the tradeoff of living in/near a big city.

Glad you leg is getting better but oh no about your eyes! Ever tried mineral makeup? it's expensive but it is all natural and unless you are allergic to zinc you should be good.

Did you find a heater? I hope you had a warm weekend!

Pearl -- come on over anytime. :)

Tammie: I suppose... although I always think of Portland as so safe. You'll be fine. :)

Stefanie: Leg is finally healing, eyes are coming down to normal size (slowly)... I have never had an allergic reaction to makeup before, so I don't know if this means that suddenly I'm allergic, or if it's just that one color, or what. If I need to, I'll switch over to mineral! And we did find a good heater! Much happier!
