7 Bookish Things About Me

A bookish meme, recently read on Things Mean A Lot. I need some distraction. This looks fun. I think it's simply just seven bookish things. About me. So, here goes.

1. I learned to read somewhere around age two and a half-ish. That seems hard to believe, but my mom confirms it. My one and only prodigy ability.

2. It goes without saying that I read every day. However, I can also read ALL day. As in, from morning 'till night, barely stopping to eat, reading until I make myself sick.

3. I love old books, especially if they are printed on thick creamy paper with a neat old cover. I kind of have a thing for books first published in the 1800s. I also love early 1900s children's novels. I like old things in general, and books in particular.

4. I get freaked out by scary book covers and will leave them face-down, out in the kitchen, where I won't accidentally see them in the night. Not that this stops me from reading them, of course.

5. My favorite genre is one I sort of call "spooky." I'm not into gore, but I do like ghost stories and things that create a growing sense of dread. I don't generally read high fantasy (although I always want to like them), but I do like some urban fantasy, a la Charles de Lint. I also really enjoy solid plain old novels. In general, I like gigantic, solid, well-written novels of all kinds. High to low lit, and everything inbetween. I'm equal-opportunity.

6. I used to walk home from school (one or two miles), holding a book in front of me, reading the whole way. Hmm. Why wasn't I more popular?

7. I don't like buying non-fiction books, unless they are used. I know I should support writers and all that, but I read them so quickly, it really feels like a waste. However, I will gladly buy non-fiction of all sorts since I tend to keep those. I have way too many books. Terri is a book addict too so our house is a little out of control. I don't understand people who don't have any books in their houses. How is that possible?

I can read all day too. In fact, that's my favourite way to spend the day sometimes.

How cool that you read on your way home from school! And I know what you mean about people who have no books in their houses. A bookless house always looks so naked and strange to me.

Yes, I was an uber-geek when it came to reading. Um, I guess I still am.

I love it when I go to someone's house and they have all their books out and about... kindred spirit!
