I don't know if Tempurpedic bases would work, nor do I know if any other would make any difference. I like the firmness of sleeping on the platform. I have not noticed any "hotness" from the latex bed -- it does not seem to retain body heat -- that said, it's not cold, it's just comfy all the time.Daphnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15394393707234499156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28671830.post-29940406622957254612012-07-05T11:05:37.529-07:002012-07-05T11:05:37.529-07:00I just purchased the 8" mattress. Plus you sink in too far which I believe contributes to the heat build up. So we have the expensive foundations that are adjustable"tempur-pedic), so I am hoping the new Habitat mattress works well with the adjustable bed. My biggest concern though is heat. I sleep hot and am hoping this be does not. They are like sleeping on a cloud. I used to spend the whole night turning from side to side. I now sleep all night long and feel so rested. The mattresses are costly, but losing a lot of sleep affects your health. After 3+ years of use there are no discernable dips or flattening -- it's still perfectly square and springy. I have no idea about the foundation, but I also have a King mattress and have a platform bed. I put some flat boards on top of the slats and that really helped firm things up (which was a problem with the cheap bedframe, not the mattress). It's been totally fine ever since (and again, I'm sure if you had a sturdy frame with good slats, it would be fine.)Daphnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15394393707234499156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28671830.post-87249069703699378712012-02-16T07:28:52.578-08:002012-02-16T07:28:52.578-08:00Hello Daphne,

Your account is the closest I have to reviewing the latex mattress before buying, so I wanted to ask a few...

My partner has back problems, so your account of your partner's experience is very helpful.

I'm a bit worried about the edges buckling due to our weight. My partner is above 250 lbs and I'm 153. Our current spring mattress has buckled on the edges and middle, bed looks like a flat banana.

How does your latex mattress behave around the edges, when you sit up to get get up?

The plan is to get a King size mattress, so foundationa nd support is a big deal. I know you have a platform bed, not a box spring foundation. I'm wondering if you or anyone else reading this have used the foundation that Habitat Furnishings sells. Still, when you never actually try the mattress you intend to sleep on, there is plenty of faith involved.

Well, my prayers were answered. I also ordered the 8" mattress. And while I was skeptical that this mattress could correct my problems sleeping (waking up in the middle of the night, having to "flip" my body to roll over, arm falling asleep, back aches...yes, it sucked). But ever since I purchased it, those problems have gone away.

I now sleep through the night (a MIRACLE!). I don't wake up with any pain. Yet I find it weird because while the mattress is soft, it's still rather firm too. This is definitely not a pillow top mattress. You don't lie on it when you are awake and think you are seven heaven. Instead, I find myself confused. But when you roll over to the side, it does not impinge your arm...a very big deal for me. It supports your body fully.

Most importantly, I sleep through the night. It was well worth the investment. I feel much better now when I am awake--which to me, is the purpose of getting a good mattress.

Anyway, great blog Daphne. And great post too!Briannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28671830.post-91084608761086344842011-10-29T12:08:17.826-07:002011-10-29T12:08:17.826-07:00Hi Mike -- it was from Habitat, and we chose the k...Hi Mike -- it was from Habitat, and we chose the kind that had the 2" layer of softer latex.Daphnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15394393707234499156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28671830.post-77895933053767890872011-10-29T11:52:41.903-07:002011-10-29T11:52:41.903-07:00What brand and exact model was the latex mattress ...What brand and exact model was the latex mattress you bought?

MikeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28671830.post-54674958089182933212011-06-30T08:10:20.831-07:002011-06-30T08:10:20.831-07:00I have to say that my partner, who has a really ba...I have to say that my partner, who has a really bad back, hasn't had any problems. The bed was expensive but I think it was worth it. Its now April, 2011. We have a tempur-pedic that no longer works for us after about 4 years of use. It's not really like a trampoline -- a trampoline is much bouncier. It's like... well, imagine laying on super-comfy foam rubber. Only firm and supportive enough that your whole body can relax. It's bouncy like foam rubber, only firmer. It's not as taut and super-bouncy as a trampoline.

I really don't know HOW I would have returned it, but I assume the Habitat people would have had some magic method. I'm calling Habitat tomorrow to see if they have samples of the material they can send out or something....

Serta makes a latex with 10 inches of talalay covered by two inches of foam/latex. It was nice, but it felt like any other mattress....it wasn't the bouyant, springy, firm marshamllow feeling you and others describe. I think the Habitat guy on the video makes so much sense when he says they don't put anything between you and the latex except for the thin covering. If other companies are going to cover all the latex up with fluff and stuff, what's the point of the latex??

Would you say it's at all like lying down on a trampoline and moving around?

Thanks so much! It's still extremely supportive and there is no sign of that concave dipping that happens with regular mattresses. I didn't get the box spring - we have it just on slats.

I think putting it on box springs would probably make it warmer, but really a thick mattress pad and flannel sheets (plus a cozy hot water bottle!) does the trick just fine. I wouldn't go back to innerspring mattresses now.

I think it's worth the money. There are no chemicals to worry about and the mattress is really comfy. If you are looking for the type of thing where you can NEVER feel your partner move, then you would want to look at Tempur-pedic, because you can still feel a little movement (similar to a regular mattress). It has totally settled down from the first few nights, however, and now I don't notice it at all.

I really love it. I feel safe from icky chemicals and mold and other allergens, my body doesn't ever ache (which it did before) and I'm really TOTALLY pleased with it.Daphnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15394393707234499156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28671830.post-39580650039274736312009-09-25T06:16:40.641-07:002009-09-25T06:16:40.641-07:00Hi Daphne,
